As a senior member of our Ruru team you’ll be focused on some of our critical backend systems including the billing system, identity and access control and 3rd party integrations to name a few. Your natural desire to mentor and coach helps lift the capability of engineers in the team. Your eye for continuous improvement sees small but constant changes to the team's ability to test and deploy safely and quickly.
Our tech stack is Ruby on Rails running in Docker on AWS. We use the Vue framework for the frontend and the infrastructure is mostly Terraform and bash.
What you’ll be doing
- Software Design and Implementation - Write high quality, testable, well documented code. Experience with architectural design and approach; understanding patterns and practices and when to apply them. Aware of when to accrue technical debt and when to pay it down.
- Team collaboration - You'll lead work on significant features. Facilitate discussions within the team, your strong technical understanding will guide those discussions. You'll explain deeply technical subjects to non technical team members.
- Ownership and Accountability - You'll mentor individuals and improve the productivity of the team. You'll unblock team members and take the lead on production issues.
- Brand and Relationships - Taking the lead on ensuring the technical team has a strong relationship with Product and other business stakeholders, and build strong relationships with other engineering leaders in the organisation.
- Innovation - You'll have an active role in improvement to performance with the customer at heart. Simplifying product and technical design through proactive conversations.
- Vision - Articulates a coherent future vision for systems tended by the team. You'll often assist others with building and articulating their vision for their responsibility areas.
- Integrity & Ethics - Proactively managing cost of team owned systems and resources. Understanding privacy and security principles and how they apply in the context of the data we handle.
- Leadership - Proactively mentoring team members one on one without prompting and regularly achieving strong alignment within your own team.

Experience
- You consider yourself a senior or strong intermediate developer who has worked in a cross functional team previously
- You have experience with a javascript based framework such as Vue, React or Angular
- Some familiarity with domain driven design is a bonus!
- Some familiarity with a cloud provider (Azure, AWS etc) is also a bonus!
