Be based in Beijing and use your commercial experience to help New Zealand companies grow in Greater China.

What you'll be doing: Te whakamahere 

The Trade Commissioner role in Beijing is an important role within NZTE’s international network, helping New Zealand companies grow in a dynamic and fast changing economy. You will be leading a team of experienced business development managers whose networks and knowledge are vital to achieving good outcomes for New Zealand companies. 

You will provide in-market connections and advice that will enable customers to successfully grow in the Beijing market, and across several other key provinces in China. You will represent New Zealand at key business events and you will play an important role in implementing NZTE's strategic priorities in Beijing and across Greater China. You will also work closely with a team of people leaders in Greater China and with customer managers based in New Zealand.   Based in the New Zealand Embassy, you will also be working alongside other key New Zealand ministries and agencies in Beijing.

 

What you'll need to be successful: Ō Pūkenga 

We are looking for a leader who is agile, with a commercial mindset and passion for growing New Zealand businesses. In previous roles you will have been responsible for business development, marketing, sales or strategy.

In this role you will need to be adept at advising NZTE customers on successful paths of 'go-to-market' or expansion strategies. You will need to be comfortable with having strategic conversations with companies up to board level, where you will provide insights to ensure customer understanding of local complexity and be secure at operating in a multi-layered ecosystem. Ideally, you will have an understanding of the fast-paced change of the China’s commercial environment including the impact of e-commerce and other trends. 

You will have exceptional relationship and influencing skills and be a confident and credible communicator. You will demonstrate your leadership and commitment to growing yourself and your team, whilst being highly organised and maintaining a focus on the impact of your work.

Mandarin language skills are advantageous but not a requirement, as language training can be provided prior to commencing in market.
