The Greater China region comprises of teams in Mainland China, Hong Kong and Taiwan in 6 offices. This is an important region with many of NZ’s largest businesses present (particularly in the F&B space).
What you'll be doing | Te whakamahere
You will lead a highly experienced team of professionals, working across the Greater China region, to create partnerships and maximise the value our customers can create and capture in the region. This involves assisting them to enter, connect with and grow in the market. Given the maturity of these markets this is also about supporting customers continuing to grow by leveraging NZ Inc and the government’s imprimatur.
Reporting to the General Manager International, and as a member of the International Leadership Team, the position comes with significant leadership responsibility, involvement in implementing NZTE strategy and leading and modelling our values and characters. We are looking for a collaborative global leader who will be able to draw on their deep understanding of the business eco-system in Greater China and will be able to work strategically within the complex and dynamic markets.
You will be commercially savvy, accountable and focussed on the success of the organisation to fulfil our purpose. Internally, this includes building the capabilities of the team in the region to ensure the continuous improvement of our customers' performance. Externally, you will represent New Zealand in the market and oversee strong collaborative relationships with NZ Inc organisations; particularly MFAT and New Zealand businesses operating in Greater China. In this high-profile position, you will have the opportunity to leverage your networks and relationships to forge strong bilateral ties to promote NZ.
To be successful we are seeking a leader who can demonstrate:
- Experience growing businesses in offshore markets
- Strong knowledge of mainland China and proven skills effectively navigating the dynamic business landscape within China
- Successful leadership of a diverse and geographically dispersed team
- Strong commercial and financial acumen
- Exemplary relationship building and leadership skills
- Being results orientated.
You will have a strong connection to New Zealand, with a keen interest in high potential NZ businesses (our Customers) and our New Zealand success stories. In addition, agility, composure and the ability to deal with ambiguity and learn quickly are essential characteristics for the role.
