Te Kaiurungi | About the Role

BNZ's Internal Audit team play a crucial role in safeguarding the bank by providing assurance to the Board and senior management to help them protect BNZ and our customers.

We currently have an excellent opportunity for an experienced General Manager, Internal Audit to be based in Auckland, New Zealand. This is a specialised role with a unique reporting line, which will see you as a member of both the BNZ Finance Leadership team and the NAB Group Global Audit Leadership team.

This is a strategic leadership opportunity that requires the ability to influence, network and engage with stakeholders at the highest level, including Board and senior management.

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Planning and executing Audit activity for BNZ, in line with the broader Global Audit Strategy.
  • Developing and maintaining a comprehensive audit universe (based on the NAB Group model) to uplift the existing risk-based Audit Planning approach.
  • Taking a lead role in contributing to the risk culture of BNZ through provision of high-quality deliverables and insights.
  • Regularly reviewing the Audit Programme and risk assessment to ensure that the right audits are being conducted, reporting any plan changes to BNZ Audit and Risk Committee.
  • Providing thought leadership and technical expertise to take the function to a Global best in class level.

Ō Pūkenga | About You

We are looking for someone with a deep understanding of Banking, and significant experience within Internal Audit or Risk Management. As this is a critical role for us, working across all areas of the business, you will need to have excellent communication and the resilience to manage multiple (and often conflicting) priorities, which is when your strong interpersonal and influencing skills will be key to your success.

To be successful in this role, you will also have:

  • Extensive experience at a senior level, ideally within Banking or from a Big 4 or large corporate environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate a compelling vision and influence senior executives.
  • Proven experience in managing, leading and inspiring high performing teams.
  • A strategic and pragmatic approach, with the ability to make sound business decisions and engage at the highest level across the Bank.
  • A tertiary qualification, as well as Professional or Post Graduate qualifications (CPA/CA).
