This is a nine-month fixed term role and can be based in either Wellington or Auckland

What you'll be doing - Te whakamahere

In this diverse role of Data Analyst, you'll play a key role in working with NZTE and our partners to collect, analyse and interpret data to develop data-driven business solutions for our web-based platforms. This is an opportunity to utilise your world-class analytical skills to analyse data to uncover underlying trends and themes that help drive value from the organisation's information.

You'll exercise your excellent stakeholder management skills to work with internal stakeholders and lead the whole process from requirement gathering, analysis, data modelling, to producing visually compelling and accurate data and insights. You'll be open, curious, collaborative, able to build strong relationships, and adapt your communication style to meet your audiences' needs.

What you'll need to be successful - Ō Pūkenga

You'll have experience in web-based data analytics and be able to analyse and interpret data for issues, themes and trends. You'll be highly computer literate and have experience manipulating large data sets and summarise insights for non-technical audiences.  You will need to be highly computer literate and experienced working in a Data Warehouse environment and experience in one or more current Business Intelligence applications, preferably the Microsoft stack. Specific technical skills in:

  • Using GA4 to understand and track user behaviour
  • Creating interactive Power BI dashboards and reports that provide actionable insights
  • Writing complex SQL queries to extract and manipulate data
  • Kimball Dimensional Modelling (Star Schema).
  • Designing and implementing efficient data models that support business intelligence and analytics.
  • Some experience with working with Azure Synapse Analytics and Azure Purview is also an advantage.

You'll also have an amazing attention to detail, a curious mindset and use your natural problem-solving skills to proactively identify ways to improve processes, systems, and practices to ensure operational efficiency. You'll be a strong listener and communicator who enjoys building strong relationships with a range of key stakeholders and are able to translate technical terms into non-technical terms.
