Be part of a team driven by a common goal; to give smart financial and business advice to clients in a way that is clear, responsive and personal.

About Darvill Mellors & Co

Darvill Mellors & Co (DM&Co) was created to offer a more modern, responsive and nimble approach to accounting services. Our team are committed to providing first class advice and support to businesses large and small, in a way that is expert, innovative, and thoroughly human.

We’re driven to support Wellington people and businesses to go further, and we’re proud to be a Xero Platinum Partner.

We’re looking for an Accountant or Senior Accountant to join our positive and supportive team and be part of our growth journey.

What we offer:

DM&Co are a company with heart; we care about our employees as much as we care about our clients.  We support work-life balance and actively manage workflow across the team to ensure workload is reasonable.  We have a culture built on trust and empowerment, where great work is recognised and rewarded.

We’re committed to a clear development pathway for everyone on our team.  You’ll benefit from daily mentoring and expertise from our Partners and Managers (many who have Big 4 backgrounds).  You’ll get ample opportunities to be in front of clients from day one, and will be empowered to build and manage your own client portfolio over time.  We have a range of professional development tools and training from external providers so you can meet your CPD hours and hone your business advisory skills.

Our interesting and varied client base is across all industries, and businesses of all sizes.  We believe in community contribution and support our clients’ businesses.

We’re a tight team who are welcoming, collaborative and support each other.  We like to socialise and celebrate success; from team lunches, to quarterly and annual events

About the role:

You’ll be assisting our clients who look to us for expert advice on everything from personal tax returns, through to guidance around property, trusts, and business structures. On any given day your role might include:

  • Preparing financial statements and income tax returns for individuals, partnerships, trusts and companies
  • Preparing GST, PAYE and FBT returns
  • Processing payroll
  • Preparing monthly reports and cashflow forecasts
  • Assisting with client accounting, tax, compliance and business advisory needs
  • Training clients on the use of Xero and other software
  • Mentoring junior team members and assisting with their career development
  • Sharing your technical knowledge generously across the team
  • Contributing to the on-going evolution of our systems, processes and IP
  • Building trusted connections with clients and networking within our eco-system (Banks, Lawyers etc.)

About you:

You build rapport quickly using your engaging communication style and open and honest approach.  You have the analytical mind and commercial smarts to provide sound financial advice and understand our client’s businesses.  Our ideal candidate will:

  • Be working towards their CA qualification (or already qualified) with 2-4 years' experience in an accounting firm
  • Have experience working with Xero and understand modern business systems and practices
  • Genuinely enjoy building great relationships and be comfortable liaising with a wide range of people at varying levels
  • Have attention to detail as one of your superpowers
  • Be results focused with a natural talent for prioritising and meeting deadlines

If you’re looking for a role where your expertise will be valued and rewarded, we’d love to hear from you.
