Kia mahi ngātahi mō Pōneke mō tōna āpōpō - Working together for Wellington's future.
People love living in Te Whanganui-a-Tara Wellington. We are a vibrant, connected, and compact city that frequently tops global city quality-of-life surveys. So, it's no wonder more people want to live here. By 2050 we're expecting 50,0000 to 80,000 more Wellingtonians, and 25% more people coming into the central city each workday from across the region.
To ensure our city continues to thrive as a healthy, safe and sustainable creative capital, where people live, work and play, we have committed to delivering an ambitious, exciting Long-term Plan. This Plan includes a number of key strategies that put people and innovation at the heart of how we design and deliver a more creative, prosperous, and greener capital. Our Planning and Environment group is leading many of these strategies, from delivering more affordable housing, installing new bike networks, to helping our capital become a net zero-carbon city by 2050.
As a Council, we will be enhancing our city so:
- It becomes greener, healthier and safer
- People of all ages and accessibility needs can enjoy our city's spaces
- Young people can get themselves to school
- People can enjoy a range of vibrant, diverse neighbourhoods to live, work and play
- Our local suburban centres are:
- inviting spaces where people are encouraged to spend time
- connected by safe, viable transport options.
