InternetNZ | Ipurangi Aotearoa is the home and guardian of .nz, providing infrastructure, security and support to ensure Aotearoa’s Internet functions effectively. As a registered charitable organisation with a loyal membership base, InternetNZ champions an Internet that is accessible, open and secure for all New Zealanders.

With over 40 staff based in Auckland and Wellington, InternetNZ operates the .nz domain name space and utilises the funding it receives from the sale of .nz domain names to support New Zealand’s Internet development through four key channels. This includes ongoing work on a range of national Internet issues, conducting research, providing community grants, and hosting events to bring the Internet community closer together.

This is an exciting time for InternetNZ. A refreshed strategic framework has been signed off by its governing body, the Council, which is organised around four strategic themes or ‘rei kura’ (treasured teeth) – .nz for all of Aotearoa; an Internet that benefits; an Internet for everyone; a Te Tiriti o Waitangi-centric organisation.

A primary focus for the organisation this year is the successful conclusion of its registry replacement project. The cutover to the new registry system is expected in upcoming months.

The Council is now seeking a Chief Executive to provide effective strategic leadership as InternetNZ embarks on its next phase of growth and development. The new CE will also work closely with the Domain Name Commissioner (DNCL), which forms part of the InternetNZ Group, to produce alignment of vision between DNCL and InternetNZ.

To be credible for this role, you will ideally offer the following blend of experience and capabilities:

  • Superb relationship management skills, supporting effective engagement with multiple stakeholders ranging from industry leaders through to politicians
  • Outstanding strategic agility gained from leading within complex and dynamic work environments
  • Excellent commercial acumen and high financial literacy
  • A people-centric, delivery-oriented leadership style that places staff, members and stakeholders at the heart of all of InternetNZ’s activities
  • Prior experience working to/with boards, accompanied by the ability to foster collaborative working relationships and maintain a ‘no surprises’ approach
  • Earlier exposure to leading not-for-profit / representative bodies will be useful
  • An understanding of the current issues facing Internet users and/or the development of the Internet within Aotearoa, would be an advantage.

This role can be based in either Auckland or Wellington, although travel between both locations will be required.
