We are seeking a commercially savvy star to join our LATAM Leadership team as the Trade Commissioner based in Mexico City.

Te Taurapa Tūhono | New Zealand Trade and Enterprise (NZTE) is the government agency charged with helping New Zealand businesses to grow internationally. With a population of almost 130 million, a rich cultural history and diversity, and abundant natural resources, Mexico is among the world’s 15 largest economies and the second largest economy in Latin America.

 

Within the LATAM leadership group we have an opportunity to lead our small but high-performing and specialised team of BDMs. This exciting role requires a leader who loves interacting directly with our customers, has the ability to stretch themselves to lead an experienced senior group of BDMs and will work collaboratively with others in the region.

 

 

What you’ll be doing:  Te whakamahere  

 

We are looking for someone who is a strong, empathetic leader with a commercial mind set and passion for growing New Zealand businesses. In this role you will need to be adept at advising NZTE customers on successful ‘go-to-market’ or expansion strategies. Gaining a quick understanding of the local environment you will be comfortable having strategic conversations with companies up to board level and be comfortable meeting at a senior government level.

 

You will have exceptional relationship and influencing skills and be a confident and credible communicator. You will embrace Latino culture and harness the passion within this dynamic market, to build effective relationships for our customers.

 

 

What you’ll need to be successful:  Ō Pūkenga

 

While you’ll need the skills to interact with customers across multiple sectors, this role leads the Resources and Energy LATAM Sector Strategy for the region, so ideally you will have knowledge/experience in tech, manufacturing, mining and/or resource sectors.

 

We are looking for someone who will be an authentic credible leader of the Mexico team, a savvy guide of our stakeholders and customers, as well a key voice on the LATAM Lead team. You will understand how to inspire and motivate others, bringing out the best in this experienced team. 

 

Being fluent in Spanish is preferred, but not necessary as language training can also be provided prior to commencing in market.

Please note:

-          Aligned with other Trade Commissioner roles the contract will be for a fixed term of 3 years with the potential to extend to 5 years. Remuneration will be a competitive package.

-          The successful candidate, and any accompanying family members must be New Zealand Citizens.

-          This role requires various vetting procedures and National Security Clearance.
