As the Principal Structural Engineer you will be a subject matter expert in concrete and steel structures and have a passion to share your knowledge with others in the team.  You will also love working with an awesome group that makes GRIT a great place to work.

The Challenge

  • Carrying out structural integrity condition assessments, fitness for service and engineering risk assessments as well as quality control and construction monitoring inspections.
  • Working with the GRIT Engineering and wider team to develop fit for purpose structural engineering and design solutions for existing assets, new builds or alterations.
  • Undertaking design reviews and approve the work of other engineers/designers to ensure proposed solutions are smart, fit for purpose, compliant and meet client/project specifications.
  • Acting as a technical focal point to support the Lead Structural Engineer and wider structural team.
  • Mentoring and training less experienced team members.
  • Developing and reviewing project-specific specifications/scopes, quality control requirements and compliance documentation.
  • Supporting and/or leading the preparation of estimates or quotations by working with the wider GRIT team.
  • Directing and/or carrying out quality control inspections and construction monitoring inspections.
  • Working closely with clients to understand project requirements and outputs.
  • Assisting with business development and marketing exercises.
  • Taking a continuous improvement approach, constantly feeding back, providing suggestions and supporting the ongoing development of GRIT procedures & systems.

 

Your Skills

  • 15+ years of structural engineering experience, including at least 5 years New Zealand experience.
  • CPEng qualified in New Zealand.
  • Experience with design of concrete and steel structures and ability to demonstrate or provide examples.
  • Ability to demonstrate complex structural concepts and design process understanding.
  • Technically proficient with comprehensive knowledge and understanding of New Zealand seismic design and Steel/Concrete material standards.
  • Physically able to carry out the work. GRIT’s project work is on live sites so applicants must be physically fit and able to work in areas with difficult access and on platforms at height.
  • Be up for a challenge. Have absolute integrity to be responsible and work independently.
  • Good communicator, relationship builder and team player.
  • Have a sense of humour, an appetite for fun and a laugh along the way.
