Lead Civil Structural Designer

As the Lead Civil Structural Designer with GRIT Engineering, you will be engaged in the design process from start to finish. You will be an integrator between the wider GRIT Engineering team, clients, contractors, and all other stakeholders and will work alongside a team of experienced engineers and project managers in a wide variety of Engineering, Durability and Asset Management projects with the majority being Infrastructure, Industrial and Oil and Gas related.

The Challenge

 Develop designs and documentation from concept through to detailed design using 2D/3D design software.

• Manage remote design teams to ensure on-time delivery of projects.
• Apply your strong AutoCAD and modelling skills to help the team produce quality drawings models and images.
• Work collaboratively with the Engineering & Design team on civil/structural design projects.
• Work closely with the internal GRIT team to understand/assess/estimate project requirements and provide technical support to ensure client needs are met.
• Prepare drawing register, design drawings and material take-offs.
• Check design work of other GRIT team members and contract resources.
• Develop quality assurance for design deliverables and maintain Design Procedures.
• Assist with the growth of the design business for GRIT.

Your Skills

• Minimum of 12+ years’ experience in an Engineering Consulting environment.
• Minimum of 6+ years New Zealand design/draughting experience.
• Experience collaborating with remote/international teams.
• Civil Engineering qualification (BE or Technical Diploma).
• Brownfields industrial project experience.
• Civil engineering design experience – Pavements, drainage, piling etc.
• Mechanical or piping design experience is a bonus.
• Ability to demonstrate and provide examples of experience with concrete and steel structures.
• Ability to demonstrate design process and construction understanding with a keen eye for detail.
• Good communicator, relationship builder and team player.
• Have a sense of humor, an appetite for fun and a laugh along the way.
• Established knowledge of New Zealand material standards and processes, including NZS 3404 & 3010.
• Understanding and previous use of quality control documentation.
• Excellent organisational skills.
