Te tūranga - The role
Would you like to play a key role in the development of improved supervision processes for a critical part of our financial system, and lead their day-to-day supervision?
The Prudential Supervision Department has a broad remit within the Reserve Bank and plays an important role in promoting New Zealand's financial stability for New Zealanders. It is responsible for the prudential supervision of banks, insurers and financial market infrastructures (FMI) as well as oversight of the non-bank deposit taker (NBDT) sector.
This is not your run-of-the-mill Adviser role. You will play a key and lead role in the development of improved FMI supervision outcomes frameworks, under a new piece of legislation (the Financial Market Infrastructures Act 2021). You will work closely with our policy colleagues and our joint regulator, the Financial Markets Authority, as new standards are developed and processes are refined. You will supervise FMIs, monitor performance, assess risk and induce change when necessary and appropriate. You will build and maintain awareness of new market entrants, emerging payment instruments and associated technological advances, and engage with a broad range of other stakeholders in the payments and settlement industry.
You will be required to provide technical leadership, guidance, mentoring and support to the other members of the team, in respect of on-going FMI supervision and related project work.
Ō pūkenga - About you
You'll have strong analytical, conceptual and interpersonal skills, with a proven ability of being highly effective in managing external and internal stakeholder relationships and working as part of a team.
You'll also bring:
- strong academic qualifications in banking and finance related disciplines, with relevant professional experience in related fields
- deep understanding of one or more of the legal, accounting and economic environments within which FMls operate
- proven ability in excellent project management
- extensive, broad-based experience in a bank, financial institution or supervisory authority is essential
