The GM Consultancy Services provides strategic leadership for Consultancy Services and across the wider business. The position leads a team of approximately 40 highly qualified and motivated engineers, scientists and technical specialists through several direct reports. As a people leader, you will have the capacity to influence and inspire, promoting a culture that supports client centricity and continuous service improvement. 

The Consultancy Services team provide a range of testing services, including fire, structural and materials testing as well as product assurance and certification. We are undergoing an exciting Campus redevelopment programme which includes new laboratories to support our research programmes and commercial testing work. 

To be effective you will need to harmonise commercial drivers with the ‘public good’ purpose of BRANZ. Your leadership approach will be effective in a culture that reflects genuine collaboration. A background in the building or engineering sector is not required, but exposure to leading technically focused teams involved in service provision would add value. To be credible, you will require:

• Collaborative leadership, with the vision and ability to add value to individual clients and the wider industry
• Strategic ability to effectively ‘scan the horizon’, to identify opportunities to meet new industry needs and to lift industry performance
• The capacity to manage multiple relationships across organisational and sector boundaries
• The ability to think and work strategically and ensure the ongoing delivery of our strategic ambitions 
• The appetite to lead, model and instil deep customer centricity.

The role reports to the Chief Executive and is an important member of an ambitious and collaborative Executive Leadership Team.  BRANZ is based in a purpose built, five-hectare site in Judgeford, Wellington only 5 minutes from the new Transmission Gully Pāuatahanui interchange.
