Te Tai Ōhanga The Treasury is the Government’s lead economic, financial, and regulatory advisor. It provides advice to the Crown on its overarching economic framework, fiscal strategy and achieving value for money from investments.

The Treasury’s vision is to “lift living standards for all New Zealanders”, so Aotearoa can be prosperous, and for that prosperity to be sustainable and inclusive. As one of the public sector’s three central agencies, the Treasury is jointly responsible for providing leadership, coordination, and monitoring across the entire public sector.

Leading approximately 210 staff through seven direct reports, the position of Chief Operating Officer and Deputy Secretary – Strategy, Performance & Engagement maintains a strong focus on enterprise leadership, supporting cohesion across the organisation.

This is one of the Treasury’s most significant leadership roles. Essentially all the enabling functions sit within the Corporate and Shared Service Group, including Organisational Strategy and Performance, Finance, Technology, Legal, Communications and Human Resources functions.

To be a credible contender you will require:

  • Exposure to complexity and scale, from a successful, executive level background
  • Strategic, operational, people and change leadership credentials
  • The capacity to lead leaders and support cohesion across functional teams
  • Superb communication and stakeholder management skills
  • The capacity to operate constructively with executive colleagues, to further strengthen organisational performance and culture.
